Intended Audience
This educational activity is intended specifically for plastic surgeons and
their office staff teams, including office administrators, practice managers,
and billing/coding specialists. This course is not offered for credit.
Educational Overview
This 60-minute program covers the use of modifiers with CPT codes and what
your payment expectations should be. Modifiers are two-digit codes that
are appended to CPT codes to provide more information to the payor about the
procedure performed. Correct use of modifiers can help you get paid
appropriately while avoiding claim denials.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the online
course, the participant should be able to:
1. Understand the different
types of modifiers (surgery, evaluation, management, etc.).
2. Understand how modifiers
affect your billed fee as well as payor reimbursement.
3.
Apply modifiers for commonly performed plastic surgery procedures such
as bilateral breast reocnstruction including DIEP flap reconstruction, removal
of multiple lesions, treatment of complications such as a failed flap,
co-surgery with other specialties such as neurosurgery.
