Training Opportunity Information

Gender Reassignment/Transgender Surgery
Clinical, Academic, Research
GRS Montreal is offering a fellow surgical training opportunity in gender affirming surgery. This 12-month fellowship is accredited by the University of Montreal, plastic surgery department. GRS Montreal has been a pioneer and leader institution in gender affirming surgical care since the early 80's, with a surgical team now performing yearly over 450 vaginoplasties, 30 phalloplasties, 25 metaiodoplasties, 25 secondary vaginoplasties and 650 mastectomies under the lead of Dr. Pierre Brassard. The fellow will have the opportunity to be part of the only 17 bed private hospital and attached 15 bed convalescence center dedicated to gender affirming surgical care in Canada. The exposure will span from preoperative clinical assessment as part of our multidisciplinary team, hands on surgical training with several surgeons and participation in postoperative care both as inpatient setting, convalescent setting and outpatient. The surgical focus will be on top and bottom surgeries (metaiodoplasty, phalloplasty, vaginoplasty) as well as facial feminization (crank-facial, Adam's apple, ...). The fellow will also be assigned their own clinic focused on top surgery, with dedicated OR time for those cases. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in research projects through the Division of Science and Education (DSE) at GRS Montreal and partake in multiple teaching opportunities. This one-year program is available for individuals seeking additional training in gender affirming plastic surgery in a super specialized setting, who have completed a Canadian plastic surgery residency program or a U.S., board-approved training program in plastic surgery. Medical licensure will be obtained through the University of Montreal.
