How safe is rhinoplasty?

I want a rhinoplasty for a dorsal hump. I’m 21, don’t smoke, rarely drink and have a normal BMI. Only surgery was wisdom teeth under GA. I’ve heard stories of patients dying during rhinoplasty so that’s why I’m concerned.

Procedure: Rhinoplasty
Location: Hastings on Hudson, NY

Rhinoplasty is very safely done all the time with patients under general anesthesia. You are very well protected and safe when it is done this way

Hello Hopeful. Even though risk exist in any surgery procedure, a Rhinoplasty is a safe procedure. In my 28 year practice I haven't here of such cases. Just choose an accredited surgeon, a safe clinic with good anesthesiologists, and get you procedure done.

Thank you for sharing your question and I can appreciate your concerns. In an otherwise healthy young adult the mortality risk is incredibly small. Most procedures would be very safe to have.

All patients have concerns prior to surgery. This is normal. I agree with the other plastic surgeons that rhinoplasty is exceptionally safe and the chances of mortality are minuscule. In your particular case, bear in mind that when your desire to undergo the procedure outweighs your fear, it is time to proceed. Trust your instincts.

While rhinoplasty has a near flawless record of safety, proper anesthesia with complete control of the airway is essential. A skilled, preferable board certified plastic surgeon must control the bleeding. To ensure your safety, you, the patient, must seek providers with the proper credentials.
