Cortisone Shot left a divot on my face

My dr injected cortisone into a pimple because I was going to an event. Now I'm left with a pigmented divot. What are my options at 2 to 3 weeks post procedure? Wait, inject saline, use Siligen or do I need fillers forever?

Procedure: Injectable Fillers
Location: Randolph, NJ

Divots of the skin can be permanently cured with release and fat injection. Excision of the divot with plastic surgical atraumatic technique for closure. See a board certified ASAPS plastic surgeon in consultation. Good luck and happy new year 🎆

Very sorry to hear of your situation. Your Doctor never should have injected you with a steroid. To make matters worse he injected you with the wrong steroid (steroid in solution as opposed to steroid in suspension). Steroid in solution dispersed and causes fat atrophy. If in suspension it just stays where you inject it. First thing to do now is see a member or candidate member of this society. Second, no more injections of anything. Back to basics and old fashioned plastic surgery. Surgeon will remove altered skin leaving crater (divot). Treat like traumatic wound, close in layers. Not to worry about scar. Use concealer and avoid sunlight. In 6 months time scar mostly faded and surface smooth. Send bill to first doctor. I guarantee you first doctor will pay it. No lawyers please. Relax, nothing fancy needed.

This is a common problem and that is why I avoid injecting depo steroid in the subcutaneous tissues. The depression can be treated with injection of your own suctioned fat or if a centimeter or less then consider long lasting Bellafill, which is FDA approved for treatment of depressed acne scars.

Thank you for sharing your question. I would first allow the tissues to fully heal over at least three months as some of the divot will improve. At that time you can then entertain an additional treatment, if needed, such as fat transfer, use of dermal fillers, scar release, or a combination of any or all of the above.

Njkat: Happens all the time. I have no idea why derms do that. Wait 3 months, see a plastic surgeon, and get an opinion about getting it excised.
