Excess skin removal and liposuction

I am interested in having excess skin removed from my thighs, along with liposuction. I don’t see that listed in your topics. Is this surgery done for thighs?

Procedure: Body Contouring
Location: fresno, CA

Thighplasty is a procedure performed by plastic surgeons and can be combined with liposuction. Oftentimes, people who have lost a lot of weight through diet and exercise, or by bariatric surgery, will have loose thigh skin. The skin is removed from the inner part of the thigh creating a long vertical scar from the top of the thigh to the knee, and in the crease between the thigh and the pelvis. Sometimes if there is not too much skin excess the incision can just be in the upper thigh crease. It's not an easy operation to go through: it can be very tender and difficult to walk easily or sit for long periods, the incisions are right next to where you urinate and your rectum so it's critical to keep very clean. There is a higher risk of slow healing and infection. You have to avoid sexual activity for a few weeks. Your best bet is to consult with an ASPS surgeon to see what your options are. Use the "Find a Surgeon" link to find an ASPS surgeon near you.

It sounds like you desire a thigh lift. Sometimes liposuction can be performed at the same time as a thigh lift. The Liposuction can decrease the fat volume but the skin that is Loose would need to be excised directly. You would have to be seen in person to be properly evaluated. Good luck.

Dear Hopeful,

Excess skin removal and liposuction after weight loss is typically dealt with during a medial thigh lift. Excess skin of the outer thigh/buttock is dealt with during a buttock lift. Both of these are very common is weight loss patients. Make sure you find a board certified plastic surgeon with extensive experience with weight loss patients. Best of luck on your journey

It is performed on the thighs and the specifics vary depending on the amount of skin and fat to be removed. Over the last 5 to 10 years more surgeons are using aggressive liposuction and skin removal without deep incisions to perform the procedure with the lowest complication rate. If the problem is mostly excess skin and is accompanied by excess abdominal skin/fat a high lateral tension abdominoplasty is sometimes a better option as that scar is much easier to hide & is less visible in the natural skin folds.

Dear Hopeful,

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. From what you are describing, it sounds as though you are looking for a thigh lift. This is a commonly performed procedure. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!
