Does the doctor choose where the fat goes?

During the time when the doctor is marking up your body to choose where you want unwanted fat removed, does the surgeon decide where the fat will be going and or in his or her opinion, where it makes sense for it to go in if I want to enhance my butt and hips?

Procedure: Liposuction
Location: West Palm, FL

Before surgery, discuss with your Plastic Surgeon the specific areas for fat transfer, and fat removal. Plastic Surgeons need to know what shape the patient desires, and then create a plan to achieve those results as close as possible. Reshaping the buttock is an operation that needs to be performed in a safe and artistic manner. There are anatomic areas of the buttock that carry increased risk and should be avoided; for example, injecting fat into the buttock muscles increases the risk for fat embolism. The final shape is determined by both the fat added and the fat removed.

Thank you for sharing your question. Typically fat grafting placement takes its cues from where a patient would like to augment their tissues. A conversation should be had between the surgeon and patient long before markings on the day of surgery. Hope this helps.

Hello Jewelsgonz. You must remind that the plastic surgeon is not only a medical doctor but also an artist. So he will not only have in mind the areas previously chosen by you, but also his aesthetic knowledge combined with his surgical skills. That is why the procedure is called Liposculpture.
