Hi, I was just informed by a plastic surgeon in Miami that if a person has RA can't have a MMO and I was told the contrary, with that said I'd like your medical advise. My RA is under control and I've been cleared by my physicians for plastic surgery but now am worried if I should not get the procedure
I have treated patients who have RA that is stable and the Pt is not on any significant medications that can affect wound healing. I would have to see you in person and properly evaluate you. Best of luck!
Please consider the advise of an ASPS Member in your local area. Many of us operate on patients with RA for all kinds of cosmetic surgery. Often a pre-operative visit to your Rhematologist or treating practioner for clearance for such surgery can be enlightening. Best,
Gary R Culbertson, MD, FACS
Dear DaliaR924,
Thank you for the question. If you are medically cleared and have stable RA, I don’t see this as a contrindication to surgery.
I suggest you see another plastic surgeon in your area.
Good luck!
