Scarring from Hydrocephalus shunt placement and open heart surgery

I was born with Hydrocephalus my stomach is deformed where they placed the shunt I have scars under each breast and they go all the way around my left side of my back. I want them fixed I feel like I was botched due to them saving my life and no one has been ever brought up helping me to fix these bad scars. Is there anyway you can help me? I'm 30 and want to feel good about myself.

Procedure: Body Contouring
Location: Mansfield, OH

Dear HS0610,

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!

Thank you for your question. It is unfortunate that you have had to deal with the scars you have described for so long. However, it goes without saying that without the life-saving surgery, you would not be here to discuss this issue. Surgeons each play their own role in the job and procedures they perform. I'm sure the surgeons that we're saving your life all those years ago we're not necessarily concerned with perfecting the appearance of any future scars. That being said, they very well may have done their best to leave you with minimal scarring but the healing process is also heavily dependent upon a patient's genetics . It is the job of plastic surgeons to make sure that we leave our patients with minimal scarring. I recommend that you consult with one or more board certified plastic surgeons to discuss your options. It is possible that scary Visions may be covered by insurance.
