Asymmetrical Face after jaw surgery

Hello, 4.5 years ago I had a Maxillary Osteotomy for a cross, open, and under bite. Ever since then, I have noticed my face is more asymmetrical esp. around my mouth/lips, cheeks, and smile. It looks as if my lower face is crooked, or slanting to one side. It's very noticeable especially when I talk and just resting even. Im not sure where to start in terms of correcting this, looking for guidance

Procedure: Cosmetic Surgery

Good day and thank you for your question. Dr. Monasebian, our Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, will be able to address your concerns. Dr. Monasebian is also a formally trained Oral-Maxillofacial Surgeon and he has performed surgery and helped patients with your concerns. He would have to see you in person to examine your face and review all radiographs. We would be happy to see you if you are in the New York City area. Medical insurance may help cover the costs of the procedure if deemed medically necessary which can be determined at your consultation. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Regards, Dr. Monasebian and Park Avenue Plastic Surgery.

Hi Abigail,

Thank you for your question and for providing a photo. It is hard to say for sure without seeing you but based on the photo it’s possible that fat grafting may address your concerns. There are also other things that we can consider. I would recommend setting up a virtual consultation.

Asymmetry of the lower face can be overlooked, as appears to have been the case with your previous treatment. It seems from the single photo you provided that the chin is not midline and perhaps is too long. An appropriate work-up should include a thorough history and physical exam, X-Rays of your face, and a discussion of your precise goals. A genioplasty is likely to help correct the problem.
