Asymmetrical Breast Options

I have very asymmetrical boobs (one is about a D and the other is probably a large b). I’ve considered getting a reduction on the larger one, but I was wondering what the recovery would be like, if insurance would cover it, and if something less invasive, like liposuction might be an option. I have really bad back pain and I think the cause may be the unevenness, but I also had scoliosis surgery.

Procedure: Breast Reduction

Thank you for sharing your question. Unfortunately without an in-person examination it is difficult to answer your questions with any certainty. Although a reduction of the larger side (typically requiring a formal breast reduction and not liposuction) is technically possible coverage by insurance will depend on your insurance carrier plan, their criteria for coverage, and supporting documentation. I would recommend scheduling in-person consultations with ASPS board certified plastic surgeons to get the best treatment advice.

There are several ways that your issue might be addressed. A full breast reduction of the larger side might be needed, but sometimes it can be done with liposuction if the nipple is a good position and not too much tissue needs to be removed. The recovery is usually fast with minimal post-operative discomfort. Insurance might cover it if you can show that the excess weight is causing your back pain and enough breast tissue will be removed to improve your symptoms. I recommend seeing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to determine what would be the best options in your particular case.
