Breast reconstruction after mastectomy

Three years ago I had a bilateral mastectomy with implants put in at the time of surgery . MRI showed both of my implants are ruptured. I had went to a plastic surgeon that did other things other than work with cancer patients that needed breast reconstruction

I was wanting to know if there are any surgeons that could help me that only specialize in breast reconstruction after mastectomy

Procedure: Breast Reconstruction
Location: smithfield, PA

Geraldine, while there are several plastic surgeons in the Pittsburgh area specializing in breast reconstruction, I am not aware of any who would claim to do 100% only breast reconstruction following mastectomy. That being said, the majority of my practice focuses on breast reconstruction, and I certainly would be happy to help you.

Geraldine. It is extremely unusual for silicone breast implants to be ruptured after three years. The normal lifespan is 10 to 20 years. The most common cause is injury to the implant during insertion. It shouldn’t be hard for you to find a plastic surgeon who specializes in breast reconstruction close to where you live. However, I would be happy to do a virtual consultation with you should you desire. Please visit our website at psanj.com.

If you are most interested in a surgeon specializing in breast reconstruction you may wish to see the plastic surgery department at UPMC. Hope this helps.

Geraldine: Did you have saline implants used?? It would be very unusual for gel implant s to be ruptured so soon. You DO NOT need a surgeon who does only reconstruction, just a surgeon who does it a lot and has a LOT of experience. I do. Is Smithfield near Pittsburgh? I think it is. Look at my website: www.drcherup.com, and I would be happy to see you and get your insurance to help you revise what you have. Dr. Lori L. CherupFACS
