Pre-Reduction-Surgery Binding

I have an 11yo with G/H cup breasts. She hates them and is absolutely miserable. Planning a reduction when she is old enough (what age is recommended?). In the meantime, is it safe for her to wear binders w/o permanently damaging the breast tissue? I bought her a binder from GC2B who claims they are safe...but I don't want to do any permanent damage to her breast tissue. Please help!

Procedure: Breast Augmentation

Dear Jam032,

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. I will typically wait to perform a reduction until a patient reaches her full growth. In the meantime, a supportive bra (and even binding) and even binding is an option. I recommend that you not make the binding too constrictive, because excess pressure and always lead to issues with the skin and deeper tissues. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!

It would be helpful for her to wear comfortable support bras, with wide straps to dissipate the pulling on her shoulders. Ideally ,wait until she has reached her physical maturity-14 years or so and psychologically ready. Best wishes,Cap Lesesne,MD
