Cost

I contacted sona bello to see about having 4 procedures done, one of which is free. I have a BMI of 37, I'm 5'1, 51 years old.. the cost is 9100.00. Is that the going rate or are you cheaper ?

Procedure: Liposuction

It would be better to consider your situation as it relates to safety and not primarily on cost. Having a BMI of 37 is considered a higher risk for surgery and complications even for procedures that are in general not as complex as liposuction. I assume that you are having 4 areas treated by "having 4 procedures done" and this becomes a larger volume liposuction procedure potentially which again has more risk. My understanding is that Sono Bello does all of their procedures with oral sedation and tumescent which does not have any anesthesia provider involved. So, my opinion is that you find a board certified plastic surgeon who can advise you on your options and the risk. Cost will then be more appropriate to discuss.

Darla,

We frequently get questions about cost as patients/consumers always want to feel like they are not getting charged too much. The answer to your question is that the cost you mention is the going rate for Sono Bello. I know surgeons that would perform liposuction for less and surgeons that would perform for more. A simple suggestion is just see several providers. You will quickly see which providers are the outliers.

There are surgeons that offer quotes on their websites with the price for that information being your contact information. Websites for the ASPS, ASAPS, and RealSelf all have averages for various procedures that can give you a reasonable range.

I personally need to perform an in person exam to really give an accurate quote because without an exam I don’t know if liposuction will get you to your goals or if something else is required.

You should not be asking about price , rather you should be concerned about safety and quality. Your BMI is too high for just about any body contouring procedure. If you can lose enough weight that your BMI is below 34 you will be a much better candidate for surgery, lower risk for complications etc. With a BMI that high you should have your internist carefully evaluate you for hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes (check your A1C. If done on an outpatient basis I would strongly recommend your surgeon use a cell saver and arrange for you to stay overnight in a recovery center or have med-surg Nurse stay at your bedside night of surgery. Your safety comes first and losing weight should be your starting point before any surgery done

Dear Darla,

Thank you for your excellent question. Pricing for procedures vary by the type of procedure, where you live, and who performs your procedure. A good ballpark is to go to RealSelf and see what the average cost for the procedure of interest is, for you location. You can also research local plastic surgeons, and call for an estimate. Good luck!

I agree with all of the statements above. I would highly recommend an evaluation by a board certified plastic surgeon. Sono Bella may not have board certified plastic surgeon performing your procedure. In addition BMI of 37 is high for liposuction. Liposuction is not a weightless operation but a body contouring surgery. You may be better served having a consultation with a bariatric surgeon. Best of luck.

As many above have mentioned, while cost is a factor, it should not be your current focus. A face-to-face consultation with a ASPS member should be your next step. Depending on what areas you want treated, a lot of skin elasticity is reduced by the time one reaches 51 y/o. Having hanging skin may be the outcome if fat is removed.

I do not wish to appear unsympathetic to your wishes, but with a BMI of 37 you are not a candidate for liposuction, period. You should consult a bariatric surgeon if you are unable to lose weight through dietary management. Once you have reduced to a more reasonable weight, you would likely be a candidate for a panniculectomy. Shun anyone who suggests liposuction.

Your BMI and age put you at high risk for any surgery, and make you a less than ideal candidate for liposuction. Three procedures for the fee you quoted sounds very LOW! I would not recommend going forward with surgery, and get evaluated by and ASPS surgeon.
