Hello and thank you for your excellent question. I suggest that you use this website to find an ASPS member surgeon who treats Lymphedema. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!

There are plastic surgery articles that document liposuction as a treatment for lymphedema. I have done ver 2000 liposuctions and have successfully reduced lymphedema in the arms. If you send photos,I can comment more. best wishes.cap Lesesne,MD

Liposuction or Liposculpture is a highly skilled procedure that requires extreme attention to the details of a patients individual problems. Lipsuction involves using a cannula to extract adipose tissue which is unresponsive to diet or exercise. The cannula is glided through the tissue similar to a violinist moving the bow on the strings of a violin. I have had a number of patients with lymphedema and lipo dystrophy of their legs. This is a difficult problem that requires exact coordination with a cooperative patient. Good luck.
