Scar Revsion

I had a chin implant 3 months ago that got infected with staph and had to be removed. Staph was not MRSA, and was treated and cleared up with antibiotics. Now my scar has healed indented with deformity. My side profile looks especially bad with tethered scar. What kind of scar revision can I get to fix it?

Procedure: General Reconstruction
Location: Carrollton, TX

Good day and thank you for your questions. Dr. Monasebian, our Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, will answer your questions. He is also trained in Maxillofacial surgery and has worked over 30 years in treating the face. Dr. Monasebian would have to see you and examine you to look at your chin as well as the rest of your face. You would most likely benefit from a surgical scar revision and it could also involve repositioning tissue from around the chin to fill in the defect. Of course this determination can only be made after a full examination. We would be happy to see you if you are in the New York City area. We look forward to meeting you soon.

Regards, Dr. Monasebian and Park Avenue Plastic Surgery.

The scar seems to be recent since it is still red. Also there is some swelling of the chin, could be scar, fluid specially if there is still a capsule.

Sonogram may give more details. The previous infection was Staph. Was it methicillin Resistant Staph? If sonogram shows fluid then this needs to be completely treated first.

If negative then wait till all swelling is gone before scar revision, and there are many options depending on how it looks and feels after the swelling is resolved

Scars tend to do better with time, and at three months your healing is probably not complete and your tissues are not soft yet. My guess is that you will eventually need a surgical procedure (scar revision) for the best long-term result, although you may achieve temporary improvement for the deep part of the scar with fillers, or possibly fat graft injections. Of course, an in-person consultation is required for the best evaluation of your situation. In the mean time, if you were my patient, I would probably recommend massage to the scar, to encourage it to soften.
