I had mentor siltex implants under the muscle. I removed the implants after only 6 months of having them. The procedure took about 30 minutes and the capsules were left inside. I had grade 1 on the right side and grade 2 capsular contracture on the left side.
(my surgeon did mention I had little bit of fluid when the contarcture was)
Do I have any kind of risk when capsules are still inside?
To strictly answer your question, I can not say that you have absolutely no risk. Your risk, however is very very small. Only about 15% of Anaplastic Lymphoma cases were seen in women who had Siltex implants as opposed to the macro-textured Biocell implants. The average time to development of ALCL is 7 years after implantation
Therefore, since you had your implants for only 6 months and they were the micro-textured Siltex implants, your risk is very very low.
In the US, the FDA does not even recommend removing even macrotextured implants in women with no symptoms.
Thank you for sharing your question. Overall your risk is very very low for any issues based on your time of implantation. Hope this helps.
Hi Lisa. From your story it is unlikely you have to be concerned. However, your surgical history is confusing. It sounds as though you had misgivings or disappointment after your surgery. Whether it was for reconstruction or for cosmetic augmentation, a thorough evaluation can only be provided with an in person consultation with an experienced board certified plastic surgeon. Best of luck to you.
I wouldn’t be concerned at all. Very very low risk.
I agree with the comments made by my colleagues. The anxiety might be worse than any other potential issues, so relax, you will be fine!
