Hi! I’m 25 years old and I’m the last 2 and a 1/2 years I’ve lost 185 pounds! As a result, I’m now left with extreme amounts of excess sagging skin. One of my complaints is my lower neck/jaw line. I know that being a candidate for a particular procedure varies based on patient need. What are some options to combat loose neck skin post significant weight loss?
If the neck skin is severely loose, then sometimes a neck lift is indicated.

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Based on your description, you are likely to be an excellent candidate for a surgical neck lift. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. This is my specialty. I am President of the American Society of Bariatric Plastic Surgeons. Unfortunately, once a person has lost that much weight, and OI congratulate you for doing that, non-surgical options really don't do much and it needs to be cut off. Sometimes, I do do a more limited procedure under a local anesthetic with less of a recovery time.
