Fluid will no go away

I had a Tummy Tuck and BBL done almost 7 weeks ago. Originally I had 2 drains in but 1 never worked so 4 days later they took it out. 18 days later they took out my other drain and 5 days later I had to have 1 put back in. I have had a total of 6 drains now and nothing seems to work because they get clogged. How can this fluid be stopped for good. Compression is not working like it should.

Procedure: Tummy Tuck
Location: Fayetteville, NC

Seromas are common occurrences in many surgical procedures. It is important to work closely with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to discuss all options available. Board Certified Plastic Surgeons are very well versed in dealing with recurrent seromas.

It is not the patient or the plastic surgeon fault. It just happens.

Recurrent seromas can be dealt with :

1: frequent Aspiration

2: Insertion of drains

3: Capsulectomy, removal of the thick scar around the seroma. And compression garment. Requires surgical procedure.

4: Sclerosing agents with or without capsulectomy and /or quilting sutures and compression garment. May require surgical procedure.

With these procedures the seroma treatment will be successful in around 4-6 weeks

5: If the seroma is small, sometimes it will resolve with time.

Thorough discussion with Board Certified Plastic Surgeon is key, with discussions of all possible risks and complications.

Fluid accumulation (seroma) is not that common, but not rare. There are options to help mitigate what you are describing. Try to remember that time will help and you are just 7 weeks out from surgery.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your fluid collections. Compression garments and prolonged drain use are the best options and your surgeon should be counseling you through this.
