In 2004/2005 I underwent a right mastectomy and breast reconstruction due to cancer. Recently, within the past week or two, I have begun to experience sharp pain with certain movements, burning, and a reduction in the fullness of the implant breast. If the implant has to be removed, what are my options for some sort of restoration, and does insurance cover those options? I am 62 years old.
Good afternoon! You sound like you might be a good candidate for a breast reconstruction, using tissue from your abdomen to make a new breast. This is called a DIEP flap. Insurance does cover this.
Take care

If you have a saline implant, it may have sprung a leak. It happens. You should see a board certified plastic surgeon in your area to discuss your options. Breast reconstruction and revision is covered by insurance companies as required by Federal law.
Without a complete history and physical examination, it is impossible to give a reasonable medical opinion.
It ha been sometime since you breast reconstruction, will need a full history, physical examination, and imaging exams.
See your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who did the reconstruction for you and plan for next step.
