I’m so sorry to hear that you have experienced postoperative complications. It is difficult to know about your case as I obviously wasn’t there at the time of surgery.

I’ll start by saying that on occasion patients can bleed more than expected during a surgery. It seems more common among extreme weight loss patients. Fortunately, you were treated appropriately.

Your current situation sounds to be a combination of normal postoperative symptoms and higher than normal inflammation. It is hard to say, but the pains may be standard healing with your nerves just being hypersensitive. The openings, on the other hand will, with time close. The good news is that the skin is not really red (a sign of infection) and the skin is not black (necrotic).

While it may be difficult to feel confident in your surgeon at times, know that results are not always what we as surgeons want, but most likely your surgeon has your interest at heart.

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your postoperative difficulties and bleeding complication. Hopefully you are moving towards feeling better and more like yourself. Unfortunately without the full knowledge of your medical history and hospital path it would be best to discuss with your surgeon the next steps in healing.
