Hi, I had Gastric Bypass Surgery 12 yrs and 4 kids ago. I work very hard to keep the weight off but no matter how much I exercise my arms still look like wings. I feel like I'm a walking Billboard for Bariatric Surgery. I've kept the 220 pounds off that I lost. I need a few things done but my arms are really starting to get in the way. How can I get this done at an affordable cost...Desperate
Selecting a surgeon for you aesthetic procedure is an important decision. For most people, price is an important factor, but should not be the only reason one chooses a specific Plastic Surgeon. Experience with your desired procedure, surgeon credentials, and board certification are all essential. I encourage you to interview American Boaed of Plastic Surgery certified physicians with offices nearby your home and see with whom you best connect. Be very wary of clinics who offer super discounted pricing. Frequently these are not plastic surgeons with the proper training to do your surgery safely.
Congrats Deslyn,
This is a huge milestone. The quickest, most effective, and most tried-and-true solution is a traditional, no-frills brachioplasty. Of course you need to be a candidate for this type of procedure, maintain realistic expectations, and comply with postoperative care recommendations.
I agree with the other surgeons. The only discounted but reliable option is to seek out an academic medical center where there are plastic surgery fellows. Sometimes there are fellow clinics that the plastic surgeons in training run but supervised by fully trained surgeons that are a cheaper option. Good luck.
Dear Deslyn,
Congratulations on your weight loss! This is a huge accomplishment, and you should be proud of yourself.
With regards to your arm lift / brachioplasty, I have a few comments. The first is to review consumer websites, such as RealSelf, to see what the rate for a brachioplasty is in your area. Most practices will offer multiple financing options, and this may put the procedure within your financial reach. If this is outside your budget, then you can consider seeking out an academic medical center resident / fellow clinic for a reduced pricing option (as others on this thread have suggested). Good luck!
Thanks for the question, and nice work on losing the weight and keeping it off! I completely understand where you are at. Losing 220 pounds is a massive amount of weight, and you have lots of loose skin that you don't really like. You mentioned that your arms are bothering you the most, so starting with an arm lift would be perfectly fine for you. Affordability is important for just about every patient, but this should only be one factor in your choice of surgeon. Seek out board certified Plastic Surgeons who practice near you that are comfortable with body contouring procedures. Check out their reviews. Go on multiple consults. You will see that most surgeons offer multiple financing options for your surgery, which allows you to make affordable monthly payments. Do a Google search for average costs of arm lift surgery. You will be able to find this information very easily. Once you have some prices and consults under your belt, you can plan and budget appropriately.
I am President of the American Society of Bariatric PLastic Surgeons and the focus of my practice is on weight loss patients and helping them complete their journey. I try to keep prices down as much as possible and can do this procedure and many other even unde a tumescent anesthetic as an outpatient.

Hi. Congratulations on your exccellent weight loss. It seems form your description that you are candidate for a Brachioplasty or Arm Lifting. This incision travels horizontally from inner elbow to the axillae, it allows us to remove excessive skin and fat form the arms. For more information I may evaluate you online since I am in Dominican Republic. My package, eventhough I am an acredited plastic surgeonm and international memeber of the ASPS and many other asociations, is lower that the ones in the states..
