I went to see a Dr about breast reduction: He said I was borderline with 250 grams from each breast being removed: my disability rep. plan said a letter of medical necessity was enough; If insurance does not approve reduction, would a lift help the pain? I am 5'5", 155 lbs & 36DDD. I really prefer the reduction due to my size hurting my back. Can you help with both

I don't think a breast lift (without reduction) would give you significant relief, and at 36DDD, I wouldn't expect the lift to last very long.,
Every insurance carrier has their table that determines what might be necessary to remove based on a patients height and weight. 250g at your height and weight will likely not be enough to meet requirements. You might need closer to 400-450g to possibly meet insurance requirements. A breast lift at 36DDD will also not likely provide enough neck and back pain relief for you.

It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. In general, insurance MAY cover a breast reduction, but only if you meet very specific criteria that are dictated by your insurance. In many cases, is is simpler and cheaper to pay out of pocket. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure.
