Can you have a tummy tuck and hernia repair at the same time?
What type of plastic surgeons perform both proceedures?
Who are the best plastic surgeons for having both proceedures done at the same time?
It is common to combine a tummy tuck with a hernia repair. If the hernia is large, the plastic surgeon often works with a general surgeon. During the same operation, a tummy tuck is performed. The best choice for a plastic surgeon is one with experience in performing these combined procedures.
Agree with Dr Glassman. Look for someone in your area that is an ASPS member & very familar with TT's.
Best,

I do them all the time. Of course it depends on the hernia. I feel very comfortable fixing umbilical hernias at the same time. If the hernia seems complex OI will opt to have a general surgeon go in with me. Your safety is my first concern.
Thank you for sharing your question. Yes both procedures can be done during the same operation, either by an ASPS surgeon alone, or in conjunction with a general surgeon. Hope this helps.
Most likely it can be done at the same time but depends on the type of hernia. A hernia repair is covered by insurance and usually done in the hospital and sometimes with a general surgeon involved depending on size and type of hernia. An abdominoplasty is a cosmetic operation and very seldom covered by insurance. One should not pass this as a needed operation unless it is really reconstructive and not cosmetic because this would be fraud otherwise. If an insurance hernia repair is done in a hospital combined with a cosmetic abdominoplasty, the hospital and anesthesia for this along with the surgeon's fee would end up costing a lot more than if done at the surgeon's outpatient surgical facility. Any ASPS plastic surgeon should be able to perform these procedures combined if they feel they are indicated.
