The ASPS supports panniculectomy on Superfat people, but I am struggling to find a surgeon on the East Coast who will do them. Would you please provide names of surgeons or practices who have operated on people who weigh as much as 225kg?
Most operating tables made for maximum weight of 300 lb.
. May be that is why you can not find a plastic surgeon to do your surgery.
Contact Dr. Peter Rubin, University of Pittsburg. He is the pioneer in this type of surgery and medical care you need.
Hope that will help
With your situation I think the best place to get this operation would be at an academic medical center. We have several fine institutions along the East Coast and I suggest you reach out to any one of these places.
Also please be aware, that this operation is not without complications and with a weight of 225Kg and assuming there are no other medical conditions and or any other medical conditions are optimized; there is a near 100% chance of complications with a panniculectomy. The most common are are wound healing issues. More dangerous ones are Pulmonary embolism.
Other factors that increase risks with the procedure, are active nicotine exposure and uncontrolled diabetes (Hgba1c level > 7.0)
It may also be a good idea to consult with a bariatric surgeon to see if you are a candidate for a weight loss procedure prior to panniculectomy to improve the perioperative risks with an operation like this.
Best of luck.
You can not find anybody to do it because no one wants to kill you. You need to listen to the reasons that those surgeons give you. At 225 kg what you may need is some kind of bariatric procedure to loose weight first.
