Success rate of Reverse Tummy Tuck

I want a reverse tummy tuck. I realize this is not a very common procedure; I am wondering what the success rate is versus the lower tummy tuck. I have a pretty heavy crease just below my breast fold ( which have been augmented ) and belly button & would like to get rid of it. I had a lower tummy tuck back in 2016 and am satisfied with that procedure.

Procedure: Tummy Tuck
Location: Bettendorf, IA

There are significant limitations to the reverse tummy tuck but it is helpful in some circumstances. It can address skin excess in the very upper abdomen, which sounds like your issue. The scar is in the crease below the breasts, where you may already have one from your augmentation, but it needs to connect across the midline where it can be visible. It doesn't affect the belly button.

In patients with redundant upper abdomen skin above the belly button it can be helpful. The scar is visible between the breasts but if you have breast ptosis or tight cleavage the scar can be minimized. In the right patient, a reverse tummy tuck is very successful. Please see a board-certified Plastic Surgeon for an evaluation. Good luck!

Dear Amymarie,

There is a very narrow population of patients that are eligible for a reverse tummy tuck. The skin excess and looseness has to be limited to the abdomen above the belly button. The scar is placed under the breasts, but does not always need to cross the midline of the breasts, depending on the severity and amount of extra skin. It can sometimes be combined with liposuction to further enhance the results. Seek consultation with an American Board of Plastic Surgery board certified plastic surgeon for an examination and discussion of your goals and options. Good luck!

It is not what you want but what will give you the best result that you really want. The success rate with a reverse abdominoplasty is good provided it is done on the patient that meets the stringent requirements and it is just not for everybody. That is the reason it is not very commonly used but every plastic surgeon should be familiar with the procedure. They are just not going to do it if they think there is something better. You need a consultation with an ABPS certified physician close to where you live to go over all of this in detail.
