My insurance won’t pay

Is any doctor willing to perform a panniculectomy and abdominoplasty on me? I lost 150 pounds after having gastric bypass surgery and I’ve kept it off for 9 years now. It’s become so disappointing to me because my health insurance won’t pay for both procedures because the surgeon who I went to submitted the request in but worded the order for surgery in wrong and it caused a denial from my ins co

Procedure: Panniculectomy
Location: Apollo Beach, FL

Preoperative evaluation is very important, the planning must be the most appropriate to make the request correctly. If you are willing to perform the surgery in Argentina, you will need to send me photos of the front, profile and back. I await your reply.

Body contouring after massive weight loss

I certainly understand your frustration after such a significant change with your weight loss. Unfortunately the insurance industry which will frequently cover the bariatric surgery has decided that the body contouring is not a covered procedure. It has nothing to do with the doctor's submission, it is another way for the insurance company to escape coverage. Their rationale is that the bariatric procedure will result in a significant cost savings long because of the improvement in your health and that is why its covered. The body contouring is deemed to be cosmetic by them.

An abdominoplasty (skin removal + muscle tightening) is generally not covered by insurance carriers. However, a panniculectomy (skin removal only) can be covered if you meet specific criteria. I perform a lot of body contouring and work closely with my bariatric surgeon counterparts.

I perform many abdominoplasties after massive weight loss, but I do not accept insurance. I am located in Beverly Hills and would be able to see you for an evaluation/consultation. Good luck!

The doctor did not cause the insurance company to deny. The doctor stated what the plan was and the insurance company denied it. You can always ask them to review the claim again. Most insurance companies consider this a cosmetic procedure and it usually is unless in the most extreme circumstances. There are many ABPS surgeons in Florida and going out of the country or state I would advice not to do.
