Hi Joeseph. Thank you for your question and I am sorry to hear that you are embarassed by your possible gynecomastia. First of all know that it is very common in young males - more than 2/3 of adolescent males have some signs of gynecomastia and in most it resolves without treatment as they get older. That being said, there are multiple causes - you should be evaluated by a primary care physician and seek consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon to determine the best options for you. Gynecomastia is a very common condition. The exact procedure necessary for Gynecomastia is dependent upon your specific anatomy. Most commonly, the procedure is performed using Liposuction. If there is firm breast tissue under the nipple, direct excision is also needed. These techniques are associated with minimal scarring. If there is massive amounts of excess skin (for example in massive weight loss patients) then skin excision and nipple reposition may be needed. Your first step should be to learn your specific options by consulting a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. I hope this information has been helpful.

Gynecomastia is the overgrowth of breast tissue in males. Sometimes this is due to hormones or being overweight. Before you seek surgery talk to your pediatrician or primary doctor. He or she may order some tests to see whether there is a hormonal problem to fix. If hormonal treatment or weight loss is not needed, the next step is surgery to remove the tissue. Depending on the size, shape and quality of the tissue the surgery can be done in a doctor's office using local anesthesia or in an operating room with general anesthesia. The scars are typically quite minimal and patients are usually very satisfied. For any surgery you will need your parents' consent since you are under age 18.

Hello, this is a common but difficult condition to live with. If you are overweight, take certain medications, or have a hormonal imbalance these can all be factors. The best option is a combination of liposuction and surgical excision of the tissue. It takes about 3 hours and you wearva compression best afterward for a few weeks. It is a life changer for men! You would need a couple of weeks to recover, about 6 before exercises. Set up a consultation and bring a parent with you! Good luck to you!

Unusual male breast development can be due to either adipose tissue especially in overweight individuals, true breast tissue hypertrophy and also a combination of both. Treatment should be individualized depending on the diagnosis. I would advise to consult a plastic surgeon for a precise diagnosis and treatment plan.

Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Up to 70% of men will have development of some form of gynecomastia upon entering puberty so you are not alone. I would make an appointment with your parents to see an ASPS board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your treatment options and determine which is best for you at this stage. Hope this helps.

Hi Joseph. It is best to see your primary care physician first to determine if there is a cause that may be treatable without surgery, such as a medication or endocrine issue. If the tissue has been present over 3 years, it may require surgical excision/liposuction, which can be performed through an incision around the nipple. Some insurances do cover the procedure if specific criteria are met. Every patient is different, so a consultation would be required to determine what is best for you.

You are not alone. Gynecomastia is a common condition and many have been in your shoes. Fortunately there are many great solutions to this problem. For many patients, all they need is ultrasound assisted liposuction through small incisions to remove most of this tissue. When there is a mound that projects off the chest or herniation at the nipple, this often requires additional removal through a small incisions at the lower part of the areola. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. First, you will need for your weight and breast growth to stabilize. You will also need an endocrine workup to ensure that you do not have a hormonal cause for your gynecomastia.
