I had 2 csections, last was 15 yrs ago. I just developed an abscess directly under my scar. And I have the dreaded c shelf. I was in the ER for said abscess and was referred to a surgeon. Will a panniculectomy be covered by my insurance because of the infection now?
Insurance coverage of abdominal skin removal surgery is always tricky. If your infection is related to excess skin, it may be covered, but correct documentation is very important. It will also be important to discuss with your plastic surgeon the difference between panniculectomy and abdominoplasty, and what procedure is optimal for you. The best thing after the infection is addressed is to have a consultation with a qualified Plastic Surgeon in your area to see what direction to go. Good luck and be well!

Thank you for sharing your question and I am sorry to hear of your abscess. Any procedure that would be covered by insurance requires preapproval by your carrier. Each insurance company has their own set of stipulations and requirements needed for any procedure to be at their expense, after your deductible and coinsurance. Hope this helps.
Perhaps. Generally insurance requires a recorded history of infections in the abdominal fold uncontrolled by hygiene. I would seek the evaluation of a plastic surgeon. They may submit an authorization request if you meet their criteria. Best wishes!

Normally, we are able to get a panniculectomy covere by insurance. It is a Abdominoplasty with repair of the muscles that is much more diffiucult.
