My son recently had an accident where he lost part of his thumb.
His thumb was rebuild with the Foucher flap. The surgery was a success and he should be able to
regain 100% use. The problem is that he will not have a thumb nail. Are there any procedures that can
be done in the future so he can have a thumbnail, even a false one?
Who ever did the flap for your son seems to be a very good hand surgeon/plastic surgeon. Will be able to advise you better since he/she has seen the defect and performed the flap.
It may be possible to transfer nail-forming tissue from a toe. A nail is important functionally, as well as for appearance.
There may be but may not be worth the trouble. Just ask the surgeon that did the surgery
From currently technology I think it's not possible to create the nail on his thumb flap.
