Hole in belly button

I had a tummy tuck in 2006. I clean my belly button area often with a Q-tip but if you days ago I think I went a little bit deeper and it felt as though the Q-tip was going through my belly button into my stomach like there was a hole there or something. It is not possible to give you any kind of an answer without examining you. If you mean going into your stomach as in going into your peritoneal cavity, I doubt that. Could be any number of things including nothing but we should not speculate without an exam at least.

Dear cc,

You should be examined by a physician. If you have a primary care MD or GYN, you might want to start there. They can refer you on to a plastic surgeon if necessary. It could be an exposed, or rejecting stitch from your TT, although you'd probably be having some drainage from your BB if that was the case. Good luck!

You can rest assured it has not gone inside, but there may be an infective granuloma of the belly button, could be a result of suture extrusion ( not uncommon even after such a long time. If offending non absorbable suture material extrudes by itself the wound may heal but you need to consult a plastic surgeon and also follow up for any umbilical hernia once the wound heals.
