Steri strips did not close the wound

My son fell 16 days ago and the wound on his forehead has been closed with steri strips. Now that they are off, it appears that the wound edges have not grown together and that the wound has healed widely. I used a new steri strip because I could push the wound edges together. Does this make sense after 16 days or do I create the risk of an indented wound by forcing the skin together like this?

Usually after two weeks the skin edges have begun moving down into the wound. It may not heal as a narrow scar unless the edges are surgically freshened. You should see a plastic surgeon for in person evaluation.

You won't do it any harm. The scar will fade with time, although in a young child, it may take a few years. I wouldn't subject a young child to a scar revision unless it really bothers him, and this looks like an insignificant wound.
