Question about surgery

Hi so I had the bartholin gland removed completely back in August. My labia tore because of the surgery my obgyn said. I then had a second surgery to fix the tear from the surgery my obgyn also did that surgery. However that surgery did not work. So I am trying to find a plastic surgeon to see if they are able to fix it. My question is does every plastic surgeon do surgeries like that?

While not every plastic surgeon would be interested in doing this type of work, absolutely every ASPS member surgeon is able to repair this labia deformity based on their extensive training. Some Surgeons choose to specialize on a very focused area such as pediatrics, or hand surgery or only breast reconstruction. But the majority of us enjoy the challenges of reconstructive and cosmetic surgery all over the body. Find a local ASPS member surgeon, and after a consultation they can help determine whether your deformity is easily repairable. Very often the labia region heals very nicely with minimal to no scarring. I wish you good luck in healing.

Not every plastic surgeon performs work in the labia and I would search out a specialist in your area for a consultation.

I am sorry to hear about your problem. Although all board certified plastic surgeons are trained to do such surgery, it would be wise to find a plastic surgeon who specializes on gynaecologic plastic surgery.

Dear Ssomme,

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!

Not all plastic surgeons perform these procedures, even though our training gives us the ability. You should research plastic surgeons in your area who perform labiaplasty. Revision surgery is slightly different and not every surgeon who performs labiaplasty will have experience with revision, so you may need to search a bit more widely than your local area. Depending upon the complexity of the problem, you may be able to have office surgery. Be sure to be sure your surgeon is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Hope this helps.

Not every surgeon does labia procedures so simply asking when you call offices should help separate the wheat from the chafe. Before having anymore procedures down there, you should verify your surgeon's experience and know what the revision policy is, just in case you need it. This should be covered by insurance but if you choose to do a cosmetic procedure (labiaplasty), expect to pay out of pocket for that.
