When will I see the final results of my gynecomastia surgery?

I had puffy nipples due to gynecomastia and had surgery 5 months ago. It was a mastectomy and now after 5 months my right nipple is still swollen and puffy and I can feel a lump under the nipple which was not there previously. When will the swelling resolve and I will finally see the result of this procedure i.e a flat chest with no puffy nipples?

Procedure: Male Breast Reduction
Location: Kolkata, WB - India

There may be residual swelling for a few months, but you should see skin retraction and tightening within a few weeks. You should stay ahead of the edema post surgery.

Can not answer without knowing exactly what kind of surgery you had and seeing what the problem is now. By 5 months things should be settling down already.

6-12 months depending on the need for gland. Excision versus liposuction versus multi modality approach.

First, the only cause for puffy nipples is breast tissue directly beneath the areolas. If surgery is properly performed, the puffy nipples will end up lying flat and flush with the surrounding tissues from the moment the operation ends. If they they begin to puff out months later, it is most likely scar tissue which can be treated with a cortisone injection. The differentiation between residual breast tissue and scar tissue is usually made by the timeline of the symptoms.

The final results of gynecomastia will be due in part of how extensive the procedure is. If a man has very extensive fat and excess tissue, the healing process will likely take longer than a less extensive case. Although most men will see a significant change almost immediately, and will feel more comfortable both out of clothing and in form fitting shirts almost immediately. Complete healing may take many months. On rare occasions, a revision may be necessary. It is important for patients to communicate with their surgeon and to report any concerns.
