Hi Shatona,

Thank you for this question. A tummy tuck or an Absominoplasty is a cosmetic procedure which is not covered by insurance.

In certain circumstances, insurance will cover a panniculectomy which is not a tummy tuck. For a panniculectomy, only excess skin is removed and muscle plication ( tightening) is not performed. And liposuction is not performed either.

For a panniculectomy each insurance has different criteria for approval and some insurances also have a plan exclusion where they won’t cover it under any circumstance. Please call your insurance company for this.

There care times where an operation can be done which is partly cosmetic and partly covered by insurance.

Since we do not have pictures, If is difficult to let you know what procedures you will need to achieve your goals. Please meet with Ana ASPS member surgeon to discuss this. Best of luck!

Tummy tucks are cosmetic procedures and are not covered by insurance.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of insurance plans have no desire to cover cosmetic surgery, like a tummy tuck. It is typically a self-pay situation. Many practices do offer financing options, though.

Unfortunately a tummy tuck is considered “not medically necessary” and will not be covered by insurance. Hope this helps

Hello, your primary care doctor does not the ability to make your insurance company cover a cosmetic procedure; while tummy tucks are very beneficial to patients, they are not considered medically necessary. I would encourage you to get your consultation and see what financing options are possible. Care Credit has some great options. Good luck to you. It will be worth it!

You would be extremely lucky to get a TT covered by your insurance. We do offer low financing and even in house financing on top of very reasoable costs in one of my offices.
