I had a tummy tuck 2.5 years ago and had constant tugging internally from my belly button stalk. I had a revision 3 months ago to remove scar tissue, entrapped nerves and permanent stitches. I still have the tugging sensation. Please help! What can I do to correct this? It is greatly affecting the quality of my life. Thank you.
This is unusual problem but your best option may be excision of the umbilicus and closures
I think the tugging sensation would be from the belly button being pulled through too high on the skin flap, or too low. Removing the belly button may solve the pain and tugging sensation. Another option would be surgically reopening the skin flap and determining where the belly button wants to naturally sit. No guarantees but it is unusual and I think the tugging sensation may be that it is on constant tension.
Thank you for sharing your question. It is difficult without an in-person examination, or knowledge of your desired results as to what may be taking place as this is not a common complaints after 2.5 years. Hopefully with removal of the scar tissue, sutures, and release of entrapped nerves you will see improvement spontaneously over the next year+ timeframe but otherwise an exploration to assess where the tension is derived from would be needed.
There is another idea that may be helpful, before considering any more surgery. Ask your plastic surgeon about having long acting numbing medicine injected deep beneath the belly button. He or she would be able to evaluate it's results. It would be interesting for both of you if this relieved your discomfort, temporarily or permanently.
