Thank you for this question. Compression garments help prevent the formation of fluid collections also called seromas. It is very important to follow your surgeon’s instructions in wearing the compression garment

The compresion garment is necessary after a TT for it gives you support while healing as well as compresses the layers of skin so they can heal together and hopefully prevent seroma or fluid between layers.

Compression garments are important to help prevent fluid buildup (seroma) as the skin/fat layer is trying to heal down to the underlying tissues. Generally I recommend them after liposuction or tummy tucks, and that people wear them for about 4-6 weeks.

Compression garments after a tummy tuck are not necessary but can provide added support, reduce the chances of fluid collections developing, and will minimize tissue swelling. Hope this helps.

It helps to reduce the edema that occurs in pos op period and gives you confort and helps keeping the skin attached to deep plane.

A surgical compression garment is not a necessity but it provides you with support and comfort after surgery. Years ago we didn't use them and people were much more uncomfortable while they healed. Occasionally people find them more annoying than helpful, especially after two weeks and stop using them. Others find them helpful for 3 - 6 months.
