odd recovery

3 months out from a breast reduction. I was a large D + wanted to be as small as possible. After the surgery doc told me he did all he could + should expect large C . A few weeks later one of my breasts started to shrink, the other stayed v. inflamed. I've reseached, all i can find is that my right breast resembles capsule contracture, but have never had augmentation. Any thoughts?

You don’t get capsular contracture without an implant. Capsular contracture is build up of excess scar tissue around an implant. It does look like you built extra scar tissue in that left breast. I would massage and see how it does. Takes about 6 months for breasts to take their shape.

You do not have capsular contracture because there is no capsule without an implant. The most likely explanation is fat necrosis. This can occur in a breaset reduction when the breast and fat tissue breakdown, usually from inadequate blood supple. Inflammation and redness are common and sometimes confused with an infection. You will often feel a hard area in the breast where the fat has died. This can take months to resolve and for the breasts to soften. Without knowing more about the technique used for the reduction- there are several, and the technical competence of your surgeon it is speculation to try to explain why this happened. It can happen even when the surgery is performed well. From your photos, I suspect you are going to be quite asymmetric when all is said and done. Ultrasound can help the tissues to soften more rapidly. Otherwise, time is what you need, probably on the order of six months or more.

It is hard to tell anything from these pictures because they do not show both breasts in the same picture. You can not get capsular contractures without an implant. It will take a few more months for all the swelling and inflammation to go down and tell what your final outcome will be. It will get better. For now there is nothing to do other than wait. Possibly you may have a little fat necrosis and this is a common finding with this surgery. Daily massaging with lotion may help. Stay in touch with your surgeon.

Hi there! Capsule or shell contracture might appear as a complication of breast augmentation. This is not what you have. The image might be associated with probably fat necrosis and consequently subdermal retraction. A mammary sonogram is advised.
