Can I make my eyes smaller or slanted for cosmetic purposes only?

Hi, I want to make my eyes a certain way. When I pull the skin back beside my eyes I get the desired slanted look I want. However, I'm wondering if that look could be achieved with eyelid surgery or would that be a face lift? I want to make my eyes slightly narrower as well.

I really like how my eyes look when I squint and hold the skin back slightly. How would I achieve this exact look?

Procedure: Eyelid Surgery

This may not be a realistic look to achieve with cosmetic surgery but the best procedure is likely to be temple lift. However small slanted eyes are created by the bone around the eye and the attachments to them and surgery to alter the bone is done for reconstruction, not cosmetic reasons. Your best first step is to have a consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. Take in 'wish looks' and find out if something can be done to get you closer to that look.

This is hard to answer without seeing the changes you want to make happen, but I've had other patients ask for similar changes and have performed a simple in office procedure that elevates the outer corner of the eye. Making the eye narrower would be a bit more involved, but depending on the look you are imagining could be done. I enjoy these niche procedures, but not every plastic surgeon does. Make sure you find someone that shows interest and specializes in cosmetic surgery. Good luck!

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!

Your inquiry is a fairly common one that I hear. The type of correction depends upon your anatomy and what you would exactly want. One way is to elevate the skin from the temple as my colleague mentionned. Another is to make an incision in the lateral eyelid and bring the lower eyelid up or to bring the tendon up and suture to the bone at a higher level. Conferring with a board certified plastic surgeon will be essential. Sending photos always helps.Best wishes,Cap Lesesne,MD New York
