Your surgeon likely advised you on this. Perhaps look over your post-op instructions tl answer your question. In general, most plastic surgeons advise no vigorous activity (heart-pounding, breaking a sweat) for at least two weeks after a major surgery. That's because we worry about stirring up some bleeding from increasing your cardiac output and blood pressure. You should be fine doing low level exercise (walking, slow stationary biking, light weights). I recommend to my own patients to walk the first two weeks after surgery, then after two weeks start back in the gym with half the weight, half the repetitions, half the level and build back up as your body guides you. I don't allow "ab work" like crunches, leg lifts, heavy weightlifting until 4 weeks out. Remember that any more vigorous activity will result in some short term swelling in the operated areas, Drink plenty of fluid after exercising, rest, and use your girdle or other pressure garment as recommended.

It is always best to ask your surgeon what his specific postoperative instructions are. That is because each surgeon may have slightly different instructions.

Every plastic surgeon may have slightly different postoperative activity guidelines, which we usually try to provide to our patients in some form of printed materials, which are often given during your preoperative visit (or sometimes during consultation). The general guidelines are similar for most plastic surgeons, but because slight differences do exist, I highly recommend that you look over the instructions provided by your plastic surgeon one more time, and if still not clear, contact the plastic surgeon who did your surgery with any specific questions.

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. I suggest that you follow up directly with your surgeon to answer this question, as he or she will 1) know exactly what procedure was performed on you, and 2) will probably have his or her own protocol for postop patients that she requires you to follow. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!

Depending on what was done, and your goals for the event, you may be cleared. This is one of those questions that we must all defer to your plastic surgeon. I'd say- plan on NO, and be pleasantly surprised if he or she clears you :)

Dear Rowe15,

Each patient has their own timeline with respect to healing and the specific nature of the procedure. Generally, individuals who have undergone a full tummy tuck and breast lift(Mommy make over) require 3-4 weeks prior to engaging in moderately strenuous activity. It's most appropriate to consult with your surgeon who has evaluated your progress to determine your activity time line.

Warm regards,

Dr. Pedy Ganchi
