Post Breast Augmentation Pain

It’s been three weeks since my augmentation surgery, using a gummy implant. My first & second week of recovery were fine. In my third week, my right breast feels very tight, is slightly higher & slightly painful. Is it normal to have one breast heal differently and the other with no pain? I was worried about capsular contracture. I have slight bruising, no hematoma. Is it a cause for concern?

Procedure: Breast Augmentation

You must have been earned about how important is the breast massage to avoid capsular contracture. That is not normal(pain) and you have to discard a contracture before it progresses. Sorry if I am that direct. Go with your surgeon and do the pertinent studies to discard this diagnosis.

Sometimes there is some pain and we can not see any reason for it and it could be different from one side to the other. 3 weeks is not long after surgery and most likely pain will subside with a little time. There may be a difference between feeling tight and actually being tight. It is difficult to offer any advice without having a complete history and physical exam. Any concerns you have now should be addressed to your surgeon.

3 weeks is short time. I do suggest doing massage. Sometimes the dominant side will be tighter if you use that arm and muscle may also be larger on affected side. Over the next few weeks this should subside. I do recommend massage and talking to your surgeon.

Any time you are experiencing pain after a breast implant surgery I would keep your surgeon informed. It is common to feel tight and have some asymmetry. It is also common to have some bruising. Very important to keep the lines of communication open with your operating surgeon so that your surgeon can bring you in for a physical exam if needed. 3 weeks from the time of surgery is very early to develop a capsular contracture
