I noticed on a lot of the breast lift after photos that there were lines underneath the breasts. Will those lines go away?
The lines you noticed are scars that result from removal of skin. A breast lift involves removal of skin, which is accomplished with an incision (cut), and anytime the skin is cut, a scar results. Scarring goes through a period of change until it is mature. While it is immature, the scars are pink. The final appearance of the scar is usually flat and pale, depending on individual factors, such as genetics and tension. Plastic surgeons like to minimize scars. In my own practice I do a lift only if there is extra skin. The scars are the result of tailoring the breast for a better shape. Hope that helps.

Hello and thank you for your excellent question. Typically the "lines" you are referring to are the surgical incisions necessary to perform the breast lift. While they will fade over time, they are permanent. However, there are different breast lift techniques, that all produce different types of scars. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. Thanks for the question. I imagine that the lines you are referring to are the bottom of an "anchor" scar that is designed to tailor breast skin during a lift. This scar should be situated under the fold of the breast and become relatively inconspicuous with time. In many cases, the scar starts out red and fades over the next 6-12 months. These scars can be avoided in certain cases. I hope this helps.

You are likely addressing the anchor scars underneath the breasts that are a result of the classic breast lift and reduction surgeries. The vertical breast lift technique avoids this particular scar and leaves only a "Lolli-pop" scar. Depending on an individual's anatomy and goals and the surgeon's preference, the most suitable technique is selected. All scars lighten and fade over time and are well hidden in natural folds and skin lines.
Different incisions, different body parts, and different people scar differently. The scar under the breast will likely be hidden be the breast above. The vertical scar may widen a little but should become flat and inconspicuous. The scar around the areola should also do well. Any of the commercially available scar creams/jellies will improve scarring, as will soap and water and tincture of time. Fresh scars should be protected from the sun or they will not fade. Bear in mind that with many plastic surgery operations on the face and body (i.E., face lift, breast lift/reduction, arm lift, abdominoplasty) the trade-off is an improvement in contour at the expense of scars.

The scar that you are referring is the result of incisions done to address the excess breast tissue and skin below the nipple level. These scars fade away with time , are hidden in the crease and are along the natural folds of breast. However the quality of the scar varies with skin types and genetics. There are also many scar modifying noninvasive treatments available now which significantly reduces the visibility of the line.
