Scar Tissue Question

Hi there, how long does it take for scar tissue in the lip to soften? Have been doing scar massages 3x a day for 3 months but there is still a hard lump. Wondering when I can expect it to soften or if it will always be like this. Appreciate any advice, thanks in advance

The lips are constantly in motion and that can influence scar formation. We have found that lip scars require longer term scar maintenance in order to help reduce excessive hypertrophic scarring. Sometimes these hypertrophic scars require corticosteroid injections. In our practice, we recommend a combination of topical treatments, laser, and injections. We recommend Sequel Scar Defense Gel topically twice daily with scar massage to help the scars. The Sequel Scar Defense Gel contains polysiloxanes and skin soothing ingredients.

Lips are notorious for healing with a lump. It usually takes about 6 months but it may remain hard for a year or two and sometimes forever. If it is really bad, a Kenalog injection or revision may help. Visit a local plastic surgeon for consultation.
