Would you as a doctor allow me to get a breast reduction

I am a 24 female diagnosed with acute kidney failure, pulmonary embolism, and lupus all in December 2019. I am in remission for the acute kidney failure. I am on warfarin and hydroxychloroquine. I want to know if I would be a good candidate for breast reduction or will it be dangerous

Procedure: Breast Reduction
Location: norfolk, VA

You should speak with your doctor who prescribed the warfarin if you can safely stop it for several days before and after surgery. Otherwise no plastic surgeon would do a breast reduction as your risk of bleeding would make it too dangerous.

A breast reduction is an elective procedure. The immunosuppression, PE, kidney failure and anticoagulation make you a very high for a breast reduction. Even in the best of circumstances you are likely to get some type of complication.

If this is to be done, your best bet is to reach out to an academic medial center

I would like to know why you are wanting a breast reduction? Is it something that could help you in better health? Any surgery is going to be risky. We would get clearance from your primary care and any specialist? This would have to be done at a hospital with overnight stay. You will be on anticoagulation prop and post operatively. Would work to get you medically optimized before undertaking any surgery.

Well, the Reduction mammaplasty is a common procedure and in the best hands it doesn’t even bleed too much. Once your nephrologist has an updated renal function tests and says your kidney works normal, I believe you can be considered a candidate and maybe the surgical team has to be of 2-4 Plastic Surgeons with the only purpose to diminish the surgical time. Of course, you will be aware of your health condition, but this surgery can be done even with local anesthesia and IV sedation by a Certified Anesthesiologist. That’s my opiniom

First, what symptoms or problems are you having from the large size of your breasts? How severe? What is the purpose of the surgery? Of course, the risks are going to be a lot higher in your case but perhaps not impossible. You will have to be cleared for surgery by your medical doctor, your nephrologist and rheumatologist and these doctors need to be available during your postop period to take care of any problems. A lot of surgeons are not going to take the extra risks with you but if cleared by your other physicians you may be able to find someone. willing to take the risks with a lot of precautions.
