Belly button wont stay together

I had a tt 4 weeks ago with lipo to sides. Due to the amt of fat allowed to take out, I was going to have lipo to front done next.

This has turned I to a disaster. I have a wound vac on my tt incision.

Dra have pulled my stalk up and tried to reattach bb 4 times. Including with staples. The surgeon wants to do this again. Is there a better way to reattach to the stalk and close it up?

Procedure: Tummy Tuck
Location: Atlanta, GA

Thank you for your question and photos. It looks like your TT incision will heal well. Trying to “reattach “ the BB 4x in weeks is a mistake. Leave it alone to granulate in. Right now it is very large, unnaturally round. Let it heal in by itself. Might get significant scar contracture, and will look more natural. 4-6 months later might need a revision or might be just fine. Trying to fix it weekly, will cause more harm, wider wound when you try to suture very inflamed tissues. I would not run for the 5th repair in that many weeks. It will not work. Sometimes the hardest thing is to do nothing, being pressured to fix something before the tissues are “workable” again, takes time. Good luck with your healing.

Hello, the most important thing in this post-op stage is that you know that the biological times of the tissues are slow and in full scar contraction at this stage. For this reason, it is not the best time to do something. You should perform local dressings with healing creams and wait until 6 months post-op. Only then can you have a new evaluation to plan the restoration you may need. Another important point is that you know that this surgery can have this type of complications and that maintaining a good relationship with your surgeon and being patient are key to reaching a good solution.

Thank you. Because the bb is open I have to keep it sealed up in order for the wound vac to work. Are you both saying I could have the wound vac attached for 4-6 months until the bb heals? Otherwise, won't the bb hole let bacteria in and the rest of the area to not heal?

I know it looks terrible to you but it is really not bad at all and will heal just fine. The wound is very clean. It will take another 3-4 weeks and the wound vac could make it a lot faster but I don't think it is worth the expense and I would discontinue it. I would use soap and water and light Silvadene dressings. For sure I would do no more surgical interventions at all other than remove the old sutures. The liposuction of the abdomen will have to wait another 3 months at least and possibly 6. Many surgeons now would have done the liposuction at the same time of abdominoplasty but some still do not do it and there is nothing wrong with that. My bet is that you will heal fine and there will be no need for any revisions and if so it will be very minor. Follow your surgeon's advice.

Medical wound care of belly button and the separated wound edges is the only thing needed nowadays. 6 months later revisionary procedures may be indicated
