I have a scar on my scalp that is almost ten years old and a small area of it hurts to the touch still. I think there may be a nerve trapped in the scar tissue. Is there anything I can do to help with this pain?
If it is a pinpoint spot it could be a neuroma in which case the nerve ending has to be buried. Otherwise only revising the scar to separate the layers of tissue should suffice.
It could be a neuroma. You need to have an evaluation by a plastic surgeon to see what your options are
Sometimes we have some pain and can not find the reason for it. A scar revision has no guarantee at all that you will get rid of the problem. Sometimes if there is a trigger point, a simple Kenalog with local anesthetic injection solves the problem. See a local board certified or eligible plastic surgeon for consultation.
