Thigh and abdominal skin removal after extreme weight loss

I will need both thigh skin removal as well as abdominal skin removal after 200 lb weight loss. Which should be done first, or can you have both areas done at the same time? Will that affect healing time? What would be the approximate cost for both procedures?

Procedure: Body Contouring
Location: fresno, CA

I treat a lot of weight loss patients. Usually I treat the abdominal area first and perform a lower body lift.

An abdominoplasty and body lift can be performed at the same time or at two different surgeries--these are among the options we discuss in detail during our consultation with the patient. Doing both procedures at the same time is more efficient in terms of one surgery, one anesthesia and one recovery. Cost will vary based on the amount of skin laxity, the specifics of what we are doing and the time required.

Your question is an important one & the answer depends on how much skin is removed i.e. whether an abdominoplasty, extended abdominoplasty or belt lipectomy is the better option. The more skin you need removed the greater the chance a staged operation with the stomach portion performed first will yield a better safer result. If you need a belt lipectomy & the skin excess is so great that it covers your genitalia on standing serious consideration should be given to self donating blood to speed recovery. A belt lipectomy or high lateral tension abdominoplasty will lift the thigh skin to some degree & lower the scar load should a thigh lift then be performed. Therefore whether a 2 stage or single stage surgery the abdomen needs to be addressed first. The cost would depend on whether or not an abdominoplasty, extended abdominoplasty, belt lipectomy, 1 vs 2 stage and blood self donation is performed. Also the length of stay in a care facility varies by procedure affecting the cost.

Hello thanks for your question. Yes they can be performed st the same time. However I usually approach my patients in the following way. I perform the abdominal skin removal first and at the same time liposuction the thighs. Following this, I come back 6 months later to perform a thigh lift.

Cost varies by region and surgeon and the three fees you are looking at are surgeon fee, anesthesia fee and OR fee.

Thank you for sharing your question. Typically patients first have their abdomen region treated first with a tummy tuck and either belt lipectomy or lower body lift. The inner thighs can then be treated in a second stage. Hope this helps.

I recommend that patients do the procedure that bothers them the most. It is usually the abdomen for it overhangs though the thighs may cause problems with even walking. I am President of the American Society of Bariatric Plastic Surgeons and post-bariatric plastic surgery is my specialty. Depending on how much excess skin/tissue you have in the area would also depend on if I could do both procedures safely in one operation. If you elected to do that, I may recommend an overnight stay rather than outpatient. The approximate cost of the procedures together would be about $14500.

We do offer excellent financing and can arange FACETIME consultations

Weight loss patients desiring contouring require a multi-surgeon team to perform optimally. This is because of the extensive amount of skin that needs to be removed and the long incision lines that require closure. the principles used are dramatically different for you than for the average patient with moderate weight loss. You should choose a center that is a specialized center and that can show you ideal results.

You can definitely perform abdominal and medial thigh skin tightening and even more at the same time including: the lower back, upper back, buttocks, arms, breasts.
