After having lipo on my back 2 years ago I can see the weight is coming back in the same areas that were lipo’d. I have a strict diet and exercise schedule but still am facing this weight gain in the same area which is very frustrating.
If I have lipo again will the results last longer or will it help to have the fat injected somewhere else to avoid it returning to the original area?

The answer is complicated & unfortunately not definitive. Energy stored as fat is spread around the body concentrated in areas depending on age, sex, race & genetic makeup. The size increase is due to more fat contained in the same number of fat cells as fat cells don't normally reproduce after puberty. The areas of fat concentration tend to be abdominal in aging men, hips & thighs in aging women & buttocks in certain races as those individuals age. The age at which this occurs varies. If you gain weight after liposuction and store this as fat the increased amount of fat is stored in those areas where your body tends to concentrate fat. This is usually the areas that were liposuctioned. However, if the total number of fat cells was significantly reduced the next storage area in line will get a greater percentage of the stored fat than it otherwise would have. That is because the fat has to be stored within cells it can't be stored on its own outside of the cells.
Dr. Stone is correct regarding fat storage. In general though, the more fat that is removed, the less likely it will deposit in the same location, due to reduction in the number of fat cells there. I think you can be confident that revision liposuction will take care of that area for good.
More details about your procedure and your journey would be necessary to determine what would be best for you. Yes, in general lipo can be done again but you would have to be seen in person to be properly evaluated.

Revision liposuction should take care of your concerns again, understanding that with age some weight gain can occur in specific areas of the body that are largely dictated by sex and genetics. Although the original liposuction permanently reduced the number of fat cells present, those that remain will grow and shrink to reflect any weight gain/loss. Once the fat cells are removed, any weight gain will need to be stored in the tissues of the body and where it would go depends on your genetic makeup. Hope this helps.

The second is revision liposuction, as you have described. It is not necessary to have the fat re-injected to prevent it from coming back. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate you.
