Thank you for sharing your excellent question. Each style of implant will have different properties and more relevant to the firmness of an implant is the thickness of silicone gel found within the implant rather than the surface appearance. Talk to a series of surgeons during an in-person examination, they can offer you the best advice.

Before you pick your implant, pick your experienced, trusted, board-certified plastic surgeon in your area. Then bring your detailed questions to your consultation. After a proper history and examination, he or she can discuss their recommendations for your breast augmentation, including implant placement, implant fill material (silicone gel or saline), type, size and possibly surface texture. Implant characteristics vary too much to be able to make a simple answer to your good question. And your breast and body features may make much more difference in breast softness than any choice of implant. The simplest answer is, "it's complicated." Enjoy your consults and results!

Good question. The new generation of breast implants that a generally referred to as "gummy bear"implants, are a little firmer than the implants of the past. This is true for smooth or textured. However, once they are in place, the result is a soft, supple breast. Due to the recent questions about safety with the textured implants, I suggest you go with smooth implants, which have a solid record of good results.

I would go to my site, texturedsiliconeimplants.com to learn about the differences. I no longer use textured breast implants primariy because of the rare but possible lymphomas that are associated with some of texturing.
