I have used Galaflex extensively for implant support in revision surgery, and can report that it makes capsulorrhaphy a more predictable operation. I have not personally used it for breast lift surgery due to lack of evidence that it makes a significant difference in results. Keep in mind that companies that make medical devices are no different than pharmaceutical companies; they entice the doctors with dinners where other (prominent) surgeons speak about the product, and even all expense paid weekend trips to various cities for thinly vailed ‘learning symposiums’ that are really just a big advertisement for their products. I’ve been taken to Chicago (Lifecell - Strattice and Alloderm), Toronto (Syneron - laser lipo), and Laguna Beach (Allergan - Siri mesh, Botox, Jevederm, Natrelle). Surgeons are no different consumers than anyone else.

Thank you for your question and doing your homework with ASPS member surgeons. Galaflex is a remarkable material and I have been using for a variety of breast procedures over the last several years. It does very well for primary breast lifts as well as a host of revision breast procedures where additional support is required.

As with any plastic surgery procedure, whether surgical or non-surgical, it is always best to have an in-person consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon in your area. Our practice is just down the road from you, so please consider visiting us for a consultation - Restore SD Plastic Surgery.

Galaflex mesh is a good material for support as an internal bra with breast lift procedures. All breast lifts tend to lose upper pole fullness over time because they rely on the already thinned skin and stretched internal tissues that caused the sagging. An internal bra adds the support, and a clinical study showed that it maintained results well.

I have had quite a bit of experience with galaflex and it has been positive. I esp like the new formed type that fits nicely between the nipple areola area and inframammary crease. It lays much better than the sheets. It is adding another cost to the uplift procedure but I like it better than stratice and other acellular dermis. With gallaflex, I don't need a drain and the incidence of infection seems much less.
