Facelift with necklift

In most cases, it is optimal to perform a lower facelift with your neck lift especially if you have any jowling in your lower face. Otherwise, it will look very unnatural with an isolated neck lift. The key is to find a board certified Plastic Surgeon that specializes in facial rejuvenation and who understand your desires for correction of your facial aging and does so in a natural manner. The best plastic surgery is when no one knows or thinks you had cosmetic surgery and this is ever so true when performing a facelift !!

Generally speaking in order to improve the contour of the lower face and neck , since this area is a three dimensional contoured structure , the lower face and neck both would be a component the enhancement. I generally recommend doing what we call the lower face and neck lift . There are certain circumstances where you could isolate just the neck or isolate just the lower part of the face, but that depends on the degree of the problem. This will require a detailed discussion of the goals, expectations, and discussion of limitations along with the longevity of the outcome and need to obtain natural results.

The answer is yes, and you're very astute to ask this question! Most patients "lose the forest from the trees" by focusing only on loose neck tissues and they don't notice jowls, downturned corners of the mouth and marionette lines which are often present, as well. Blending the neck to the lower face is aesthetically crucial: if only a neck lift is performed then jowls and lower face laxity will look much more obvious and out of balance with the neck.

So, when consulting with a patient for neck lift I always draw his/her attention to the jawline and marionette lines which should be lifted as well, to create natural contours and transitions. This way your face will look much more natural. I show patients many before/after photos of my neck/lower face lift patients and they then see how important it is to consider lifting the two regions together.

In the majority of facelifts that I perform on patients of your age group, I find it most commonly that patients require both their neck lift And faceless performed at the same time to provide a good balance for the face. Of course, it is always best to be seen in person. Good luck.

Usually some correction of the jowl area or jaw line is recommended when performing a neck lift. You want the areas to look like that they blend naturally together. I would recommend you see a board certified plastic surgeon in your area for a consultation. Occasionally the neck can be addressed alone. Not a significant difference in healing time or incisions.

I'd like to jump in on this topic as well. Everybody's answer is fairly consistent, and I am particularly fond of Rohrich and Rad's responses because they are emphasizing the importance of harmony and subtlety in facelift surgery. The neck and face, indeed, are contiguous in many more ways than one. In many women I see, the turkey neck extends to the sides of the chin and connects to jowls, which then carry onward to the corners of the mouth. Correction of the neck alone is warranted in some cases, and you really need to be seen for an accurate answer to your question, but likely a proper facelift will promise a more harmonious and elegant result. Most people who get an isolated neck lift are still underwhelmed afterwards, even if the surgery went well. This is because other things are usually still present that weren’t addressed in the necklift: jowls and loss of cheek volume (curves). You would need to be evaluated, but you will likely be happier with a face and neck lift, not just a neck lift.

In my practice, I always perform these procedures as one. This gives a natural looking contour across the jawline into the lower face.

It really depends on your goals, your appearance, and any associated medical conditions that you might have. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. In patients with a large amount of excess hanging neck skin, the addition of a lower facelift will allow the surgeon to achieve a more natural and harmonious facelift result. This combination allows the skin and deeper layers of the face to be more effectively lifted and tailored.

A lower facelift and neck lift go well together. Any type of lower face lift will help the area under the chin. In cases where there are platysma muscle bands present under the chin, a separate incision is made in the crease under the chin and the muscle bands are interrupted and stitched together. Then from the cheeks, the muscles are lifted so that it creates a sling effect in the neck central area and eliminates any loose skin and muscle band. Most board certified plastic surgeons are very familiar with this operation, but it would be beast to consult a surgeon in the later stage of their carier with more experience in facial rejuvenation surgery.

A facelift is actually a face and neck lift. I do many of these under even a local anesthetic will little downtime.
